Perfume review: Chanel Egoiste
Yep, its time for another perfume review again and this time it's one of my latest purchases: Chanel Egoiste
Egoiste is one of those classic, power perfumes that not many guys can pull off without feeling or looking out of place. It exudes masculinity and obnoxiousness. It's rude and has an in your face attitude. It's odd and intimidating. It also drives the ladies wild. Egoiste is not for everyone. It is heavy, rich and overpowering and can easily turn guys off, but on the other hand get the attention of the girls.
Egoiste starts off with a highly offensive cough syrup note, thanks to the combination of tangerine, rosewood and coriander and rosewater (rose damask) together with a massive amount of cinnamon which gives Egoiste its ego. It assaults and overpowers your nose as if someone stuck 2 sticks of cinnamon in each nostril. It smells feverish and warm. When i bought my bottle of Egoiste, some collegues sniffered the bottle and was taken aback. they were basically shocked by the top notes, which is actually the heart notes as well. However, Egoiste is a complex perfume: the drydown is reminiscent of agarwood, which is an olfactory illusion created by the blended notes of vanilla, sandalwood and ambrette seed. It's warm, demanding and subtle at the same time. It is classy and almost magical. Women can notice it right away and they do like it. It demands respect. It demands attention.
This is a scent that guys who need to be noticed or respected should wear in the office and one of the few classics that any decent guy should have in his wardrobe. Definitely a scent meant for guys and it does exudes huge amounts of manliness. However it is loud and overpowering. You should use this if you need to feel macho once in a while. Egoiste does pass off okay as a daily office scent for that extra PR kick you need in your personality and oh, buy the big bottle, you will not regret this one.
